FU-PEG COLT GROUP ONE DERBY BOUND

13th March 2007

Tipungwuti (3g, Fusaichi Pegasus-So Gorgeous, by Brief Truce) looks to be headed to Sydney for the Group One AJC Australian Derby (2400m) following a storming victory in the Listed SAJC Adelaide Guineas (1600m) at Morphettville.

All the more focussed following a recent gelding operation, Tipungwuti rattled home late in the race to figure in a three-way photo-finish and
was ultimately judged to have arrived in time to record his first win in stakes company.

The son of Fusaichi Pegasus took the contest by a long head and now has bigger fish to fry according to his astute trainer, Mark Kavanagh. ”He’s now won his last two but I’m telling you, he’s only 70 per cent fit. He's got some good races in him and I think you'll see him running in the opposite direction soon," Kavanagh claimed in inference to the Sydney way of going.

From So Gorgeous, one of the finest South Australian-based racemares to have been seen in recent years, Tipungwuti was a $330,000 yearling purchase in 2005. He has now won and placed at stakes level from just eight lifetime starts and seems destined for bigger and better things.
