General Eisenhower Rules

5th May 2007

General Eisenhower (2c Fusaichi Pegasus – Moonflute, by Danehill) dished out a galloping lesson at Moonee Valley on Saturday, thrashing a smart field of two year-olds to win by six lengths.

Having his second race start after being beaten a neck on debut at Ballarat on April 22, General Eisenhower obviously appreciated the step up in distance to 1523 metres, crossing swiftly from an outside gate and parking just off the lead.

Let loose just before the turn by jockey Mark Gatt, he strolled clear and kept going with just his shadow for company.

Prepared by Mick Price for the Alteri family, General Eisenhower could not have been more impressive.

“He wanted to hang in quite badly at his first start so we decided to push forward and let him find the fence,” said Price.

“It was a really good effort, he might be a Derby horse in the spring, but for now we might go to the Gibson Carmichael before he goes to the paddock, it’s hard to tip them out when they’ve just won like that.”

Bred and offered for sale by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, General Eisenhower was purchased by Newlands Thoroughbreds for $150,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

He is the first foal of the Danehill mare Moonflute, a Group Three winner and second to champion filly Ha Ha in the Group One AJC Flight Stakes.

Fusaichi Pegasus is the leading third season sire in Australia with seasonal progeny earnings in excess of $4.3 million and returns to Australia this spring at a fee of $66,000.
