Two Out of Three for Pit Lane
23rd June 2007
The Peter Moody trained Van Nistelrooy gelding Pit Lane (2g Van Nistelrooy - Disco Girl, by Marauding) made it two wins from three starts when he scored a tenacious victory at the metropolitan meeting at Bendigo on Friday.Stepping up to 1400 metres in the open juvenile event, Pit Lane fought on doggedly after finding the lead on straightening and prevailed to win by a short head.
An $80,000 purchase for Keiran Moore Bloodstock from the draft of Trelawney Stud at the 2006 NZB Select Yearling Sale, Pit Lane is the second foal of the metropolitan winning Marauding mare Disco Girl.
Pit Lane is the lone Australian winner to date for the Coolmore owned Van Nistelrooy, who shuttled to New Zealand for four seasons, brought to the Southern Hemisphere by a partnership of breeders including Chequers Stud, Curraghmore Stud, Fairdale Stud, Haunui Farm, Pencarrow and Trelawney Studs.
He’s had a winning run during the last few weeks with half a dozen first crop winners in England, Singapore and America, where he posted his first stakes-winner in Mailey’s Cat.
The Group Two winning son of Storm Cat will remain in the Northern Hemisphere this year at Ashford Farm in Kentucky where he has been covering at a fee of $US7,500.
