Winning Hat-Trick for Pit Lane

7th July 2007

Van Nistelrooy two year-old Pit Lane (2g Van Nistelrooy - Disco Girl, by Marauding) made it three wins in succession when he powered through heavy conditions to win the open juvenile event over 1400 metres at Sandown on Saturday.

He made light work of his 58kg in tracking the leader Kinugawa throughout, before moving clear in the straight and going on to win by nearly two lengths.

An $80,000 purchase for Keiran Moore Bloodstock from the draft of Trelawney Stud at the 2006 NZB Select Yearling Sale, Pit Lane is the second foal of the metropolitan winning Marauding mare Disco Girl.

With three wins and a third from four starts he has already returned $77,250 in prizemoney for his lucky owners, the Wanless family.

Pit Lane is the lone Australian winner to date for the Coolmore owned Van Nistelrooy, who shuttled to New Zealand for four seasons, brought to the Southern Hemisphere by a partnership of breeders including Chequers Stud, Curraghmore Stud, Fairdale Stud, Haunui Farm, Pencarrow and Trelawney Studs.

The Group Two winning son of Storm Cat will remain in the Northern Hemisphere this year at Ashford Farm in Kentucky where he has been covering at a fee of $US7,500.
