New Zealand bred filly Vanny Fair (2f Van Nistelrooy - French Flute, by Jugah) provided her young sire Van Nistelrooy with his first Southern Hemisphere Black Type performer when she ran second in the Listed Whangarei Breeders Stakes over 1200 metres on Saturday.Prepared by Ross Elliott, Vanny Fair was beaten a length by her stablemate Martini Red, who led throughout with Vanny Fair emerging late to throw down a gallant challenge.
Vanny Fair has now had six starts for a win and three seconds.
Vanny Fair was purchased by Australian-based owner Jim Simpson at the 2006 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale from the Trelawney Stud draft for $35,000 and is the fifth foal of stakes winning-mare French Flute.
Vanny Fair is one of nine winners worldwide for the Coolmore owned Van Nistelrooy , who shuttled to New Zealand for four seasons, brought to the Southern Hemisphere by a partnership of breeders including Chequers Stud, Curraghmore Stud, Fairdale Stud, Haunui Farm, Pencarrow and Trelawney Studs.
The Group Two winning son of Storm Cat will remain in the Northern Hemisphere this year at Ashford Farm in Kentucky where he has been covering at a fee of $7,500.
