Promising Win for Yoburg

8th September 2007

Johannesburg was represented by a smart winner at the Warwick Farm meeting on Saturday in the shape of the Gary Portelli trained Yoburg (3g Johannesburg - You Jest, by Rory's Jester) , a $40,000 purchase from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders at the 2006 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Yoburg finished with a late rush, skipping clear to win the restricted event over 1200 metres by more than a length and has now won two of four starts.

Secured by Vin Cox Bloodstock and raced by a syndicate of half a dozen owners, Yoburg (pictured as a yearling) was bred by Ross Warnock of Flame Tree Stud and sold under the Southern Cross banner.

He is the fourth and final foal of the Rory’s Jester mare You Jest, a minor winner whose extended family includes Group One winners Canny, Lad, Canny Lass, Camarena and Camarilla.

Johannesburg was the leading first season sire in Australia by individual winners last season and is also running second on the US second seasons sires list by earnings.
