Aqua D’Amore Tested in Foal
24th September 2007
Enigmatic racemare Aqua D’Amore (6m Danehill - Romantic River, by Irish River) became more famous for sitting down in the barrier than winning races, but the quirky daughter of Danehill has made a positive start to her new career at stud.A Group One winner of nine races and over $1.9 million in prizemoney, the Gai Waterhouse trained Aqua D’Amore was in scintillating form last spring when she ran second in the Caulfield Cup, fourth in the Cox Plate and third in the Mackinnon.
She returned in the autumn to nail her first and only Group One success when defeating champion Kiwi mare Seachange and perennial WFA star El Segundo in the Group One MRC Futurity Stakes.
Originally slated to be covered by Encosta de Lago in her first season at stud, the Coolmore owned mare was instead covered by Fusaichi Pegasus at the start of the season and has now been confirmed as in foal.
Haradasun’s sire Fusaichi Pegasus has been in keen demand from breeders looking to switch from stallions delayed in quarantine such as Encosta de Lago and as a result has covered some exceptional mares including triple Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva.
