Johannesburg colt 14/1 for Guineas glory

Jupiter Pluvius (2c Johannesburg-Saratoga Honey, by Boundary) arrived at the Curragh on Sunday with a big home reputation and - although he only scored by a neck on his debut - there was a lot to like about the way the Johannesburg colt saw off his 16 rivals.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien feels the $475,000 yearling, who was bred by H Smoot Fahlgren, will improve considerably for the experience and Jupiter Pluvius certainly impressed the bookmakers, who quote him as low as 14/1 to win next year’s G1 2000 Guineas.

"We always thought he was a lovely colt and he worked like a good horse in the spring, which is always a good sign," said O’Brien. "He was no more than 80 per cent fit today and hopefully there’s a lot to look forward to next year
