Sky is the limit for Johannesburg colt Jupiter

30th October 2007

Three years ago a colt named Footstepsinthesand won the G3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on his second racecourse outing before going on to glory in the G1 2000 Guineas.

And many bookmakers believe lightning could strike twice after the Johannesburg colt Jupiter Pluvius (2c Johannesburg-Saratoga Honey, by Boundary), running just eight days after a successful racecourse debut, won Monday’s G3 Killavullan Stakes for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Bred by H Smooth Fahlgren, the $450,000 yearling purchase is now a 12/1 chance for Classic glory next May.

"He's always worked nicely and I fancied him coming here. He's a progressive type," said winning jockey Seamus Heffernan. "He had been ticking over and when we went to the Curragh we knew he was a nice horse. It turned out he was nicer than we thought. I was impressed with him today against a strong field with plenty of chances."
