One Cool Cat off the mark in first Irish 2yo race of 2008
31st March 2008
One Cool Cat - a brilliant dual Group 1 winner as a two-year-old himself - got off the mark in the very first Irish two-year-old race of 2008 at the Curragh on Sunday when the James Burns-trained Cool Tarifa (2f One Cool Cat-Tarafiya, by Trempolino) landed a gamble in the five-furlong juvenile maiden.
The filly, a 20,000 euros Goffs purchase bred by L Montgomery and D Hyland, was backed from 14/1 into 6/1 and took the lead in the final furlong to score by a length and half.
Royal Ascot in June is now on the schedule for her after a tilt at the G3 Swordlestown Sprint at Naas.
"She's got everything you'd expect from a One Cool Cat - she's tough, she's fast and has a bit of class," said Burns. "Hopefully she's an Ascot two-year-old but she'll have to progress and we'll look at the Swordlestown in Naas next."
One Cool Cat’s first British runner Knavesmire (2f One Cool Cat-Caribbean Escape, by Pivotal) ran a blinder in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster on March 22 when finishing third in the 19-runner contest
Bookmakers Cashmans are betting on who will be the champion first-season sire of 2008 and now rate One Cool Cat at just 4/1 to land the title
"From only two runners in Ireland and England, One Cool Cat has had a Brocklesby third and a Curragh maiden winner, so he could not have got off to a much better start," said Cashmans spokesman Joseph Burke.
