Irish Group Three winner for Danehill Dancer
7th April 2008
Danehill Dancer was in the winners circle in Ireland at the weekend when his three year-old filly Carribean Sunset (3f Danehill Dancer x Bonheur, by Royal Academy) broke her maiden in capturing the Group Three Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial over seven furlongs.Another winner for the powerful stable of Dermot Weld, Carribean Sunset ran some nice races in good company last year and did a good job to win this assignment after finishing fourth in a maiden at Cork when resuming from her winter break.
She settled just off the pace and then found the line strongly in a driving finish to beat the Pivotal filly Halfway to Heaven with last year’s Group One winner Saoirse Abu in third place.
“She did it very well today and learned from Cork,” said Dermot Weld.
“She was fitter today and battled, and the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas (May 25) will be her next race.”
Interestingly, Carribean Sunset is from Bonheur, a daughter of another outstanding Coolmore based sire in Royal Academy.
Purchased for 160,000 euros at the 2006 Goffs Forbes Sale by Dermot Weld from the draft of Barronstown Stud, Carribean Sunset has a truly international pedigree as her Irish bred dam Bonheur is a half-sister to a champion German filly in Quebrada from an American Group One winner in Queen to Conquer.
Danehill Dancer has a dozen yearlings catalogued for the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
