Impressive Debut for Mythical Border

10th May 2008

Exciting filly Mythical Border (2f Johannesburg x Border Dispute, by Boundary) was labelled a ‘TDN Rising Star’ following her eye-catching debut in a fillies maiden at Lingfield on Friday.

The Jeremy Noseda trained filly travelled in fifth position before accelerating brilliantly with a furlong to run, then easing down on the line to win the five furlong contest by four lengths.

A sale ring veteran having fetched $145,000 at the Keeneland November Foal Sale, then $150,000 at the Fasig Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale, before being purchased by John McCormack for $500,000 at the Ocala Bloodstock February Two Year Olds Sale, Mythical Border will be set for a tilt at the Group Two Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

“She was bought by John McCormack at the Ocala breeze-up specifically with Royal Ascot in mind and she’s the owner’s first runner in this country in his own colors,” said Noseda.

“This was her first step, we’ll take her home before we decide if she runs again ahead of the Queen Mary, but she’s already very professional.”

Mythical Border is raced by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and is from the unraced mare Border Dispute, a full sister to Group Three placed Plenty by Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown’s sire, Boundary.

Like so many of Johannesburg’s best stakes horses, Mythical Border carries Mr Prospector through her female side, with her second dam the Forty Niner mare Scads a grand-daughter of legendary matriarch Fanfreluche.
