New Stakes-Winner for FuPeg

Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus posted a new stakes-winner at Hollywood on Friday night when Canteen (6g Fusaichi Pegasus x Bottle Top, by Topsider) prevailed in a blanket finish to win the Listed El Segundo Stakes over six furlongs.

Resuming from a spell having not raced since January, the Neil Drysdale trained gelding stalked the pace before chiming in with a strong run three wide and doing best in a close finish to win by a nose.

Bred and raced by Arthur B Hancock III, Canteen is a half-brother to stakes-winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Strodes Creek being from the good producer and stakes-winner Bottle Top, by Topsider.

A consistent performer if somewhat of a ‘bridesmaid’, Canteen has won four races and placed eight times from 19 starts earning $246,070.
