Smart Doomben Winner for Joburg

24th May 2008

Talented gelding Woody ‘n’ Buzz (3g Johannesburg x My Flashing Star, by Snippets) took his record to four wins from six starts when he landed the $100,000 Quality event for three year-olds at Doomben on Saturday over 1200 metres.

The Alan Bailey trained three year-old had no luck at his first run back from a spell when slowly away from a wide gate and made amends for that defeat with a powerful win that will have connections looking at some Black Type assignments.

A $100,000 purchase for Magic Bloodstock from the draft of Monarch Stud at the 2006 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Woody ‘n’ Buzz has won $131,300 to date and can doubtless add to that in coming weeks.

He is from the Group Three winning Snippets mare My Flashing Star, a half-sister to the dams of Group One QTC Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River and Group Two winning sprinter French Bid.

Johannesburg also featured with smart three year-old Turffontein(3c Johannesburg x Spirit of Grave, by Dr Grace) who charged home for third in the Group One BTC Doomben 10,000 behind Apache Cat and Murtajill.

A stakes-winner back in February, Turffontein is holding his form exceptionally well after a long campaign and looks to have his hoof right on the till.
