Looky Yonder Stars for Johannesburg

26th May 2008

Fresh from siring a French Group One winner last weekend in Sageburg, outstanding young sire Johannesburg has backed up with a brand new American Group Two winner in Looky Yonder (4m Johannesburg x Victorian Angel, by Vice Regent).

Transferred to Big Brown’s trainer Rick Dutrow at the end of last season, Looky Yonder turned in a career best performance when taking out the Group Two Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont over six and a half furlongs.

Despite stumbling at the start, which forced her to trail the field, Looky Yonder finished with a resolute burst to reel in the hot favourite Dream Rush, going on to score by a length with another Johannesburg back in third place in Baroness Thatcher (4m Johannesburg x Natkeeta, by Gulch).

Raced by Lansdon B Robbins lll, Looky Yonder was purchased for $25,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and has put together a handy record of five wins from 11 starts with prizemoney of $227,835.

Looky Yonder is one of five winners produced by the stakes-winning mare Victorian Angel, a Vice Regent daughter of another stakes-winner in the Halo mare Twice an Angel.

Looky Yonder becomes the 18th stakes-winner worldwide for Johannesburg, who is enjoying a bumper season as the leading third crop sire on Northern Hemisphere earnings this year according to US Bloodhorse.
