Giant Gizmo Cracks Half a Million

27th May 2008

Giant’s Causeway was in the frame at Lone Star Park on Monday when Giant Gizmo (4h Giant’s Causeway x Golden Antigua, by Hansel) scored a decisive two length win in the Group Three Lone Star Park Handicap.

Caught four wide shortly after the start, Giant Gizmo gradually worked into the race and skipped clear at the finish for a stylish victory.

“I was a little disappointed going into the first turn,” said jockey Garrett Gomez.

“I thought I would [only] be three wide. He was traveling well, and at about the half-mile pole, he was telling me to let him go ahead and do a little something. So I went ahead and let him out a notch and when we turned for home, he did all the rest.”

A last start winner of the Group Three Alysheba Stakes at Churchill Downs on Oaks Day, Giant Gizmo has gone right on with the job for trainer Bobby Frankel in taking his record to six wins from 11 starts with prizemoney of $508,685.

A home bred for Frank Stronach, Giant Gizmo is from the stakes-winning Hansel mare Golden Antigua from the family of triple Group One winner Mi Selecto.

Giant Gizmo is bred on the highly successful Giant’s Causeway x Mr Prospector cross which has produced six of his 10 Group One winners to date.
