Two stakes wins in two nights for One Cool Cat
29th May 2008
One Cool Cat’s remarkable rise to stardom as a sire continued at Sandown on Thursday night when he had his second first-crop success in as many nights after Icesolator (2c One Cool Cat-Zinnia, by Zilzal) defied a 5lb penalty to win the Listed National Stakes under top weight.
Richard Hannon’s charge always raced prominently in the five-furlong event before jockey Richard Hughes took the lead a furlong out to beat the favourite Finjaan by a length and a half.
Icesolator, who was bred by Pier House Stud and sold for 65,000 euros as a yearling, picked up his penalty after victories in a maiden and conditions event at Goodwood earlier in the month.
"He is a lovely little horse and that is not his trip - he wants six furlongs," said Hannon. "I don't know where he will go now. I need to look at the conditions of the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, but he might be good enough for the G2 Norfolk Stakes."
Icesolator’s win came 24 hours after the Mel Brittain-trained Knavesmire (2f One Cool Cat-Caribbean Escape, by Pivotal) took the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.
One Cool Cat has made a sensational start to take a runaway lead in the first season sires’ table with 10 individual winners in Europe to his name already.
