Heatseeker Favourite for Hollywood Gold Cup

Quality galloper Heatseeker (5h Giant’s Causeway x Rusty Back, by Defensive Play) stamped himself as the horse to beat in the upcoming Group One Hollywood Gold Cup when he scored a record breaking win in the Group Two Californian Stakes at Hollywood on the weekend.

Sent out favourite, Heatseeker dominated his old rival Tiago in racing right away to win by five and a quarter lengths in race record time for the 1 1/8-mile distance on the Inglewood track clocking 1:47.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for William Deburgh, Heatseeker has won seven races and placed seven times from 17 starts earning $1.1million in prizemoney, his career highlights to date including the Group One Santa Anita Handicap.

One of 43 stakes-winners worldwide for outstanding sire Giant’s Causeway, Heatseeker is from Rusty Back, a half-sister to Group One winner Spanish Fern by the terrific broodmare sire Defensive Play.
