Stakes Double for Grand Slam
22nd June 2008
Grand Slam featured on Saturday with a stakes double for smart mare Lady Digby and improving three year-old Amazing Results.Amidst heavy rain and lightning strikes, seasoned campaigner Lady Digby (4m Grand Slam x Compete, by El Prado) (pictured) surged to the front in the Group Three All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs, claiming a two and a quarter length win in the 1 and 1/8 mile contest.
Second at her most recent run in the Group Three Gallorette Stakes at Pimlico on May 17, trainer Graham Motion had Lady Digby in peak condition for a race he has won three times previously.
Bred by Earle Mack and retained to race after passing in shy of her reserve as a yearling, Lady Digby has won four races and placed six times from 12 starts earning $304,252 in prizemoney.
Lady Digby is from the El Prado mare Compete and comes from the family of US stakes-winners Private Treasure, Sam Lord’s Castle and Golden Locket.
Talented colt Amazing Results (3c Grand Slam x Ioya Two, by Lord at War) added to his impressive resume when taking the Listed Springfield Stakes on the all weather track at Arlington over one mile.
A two-time stakes-winner previously on turf, the Chris Block trained Amazing Results found the line strongly to win by a length taking his overall record to four wins and two seconds from eight starts with prizemoney of $169,827.
Bred and retained to race by Team Block, Amazing Results is from the very smart racemare Ioya Two, a Group Three winner of 11 races up to nine and a half furlongs.
