Stakes Double for Fu Peg

29th June 2008

Haradasun’s sire Fusaichi Pegasus posted a stakes double at the weekend with Black Type wins for Populist and Fancy Fusaichi in North America.

The Gary Capuano trained filly Populist (3f Fusaichi Pegasus x Population, by General Assembly) took her record to three wins from six starts when strolling clear to take the St Georges Stakes over 1 and 1/16th mile at Delaware by a length and three-quarters.

A $230,000 purchase from the 2007 Fasig Tipton Two Year Olds in Training Sale in February, Populist is a half-sister to English Group One winner Saratoga Springs being from the General Assembly mare Population.

Also successful for Fu Peg was the Bill Mott trained Fancy Fusaichi (4m Fusaichi Pegasus x Fancy Clancy, by Rahy), who bolted away to win the Listed Iowa Distaff Stakes at Prairie Meadows over 1 and 1/16th mile by eight and three-quarter lengths.

A home bred for George Steinbrenners Kinsman Stables, Fancy Fusaichi is from the Rahy mare Fancy Clancy, a half-sister to Group One winner Joyeux Danseur from terrific producer Fabuleux Jane, grand-dam of Group One winners Arazi and Noverre.

Both Fancy Fusaichi and Populist are new stakes-winner for Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, bringing his overall tally of stakes-winners worldwide to 34.
