Kiwi Stakes-Winner for Giant

28th September 2008

Leading US sire Giant’s Causeway featured in New Zealand on Saturday with a new stakes-winner when Awesome Planet (3f Giant’s Causeway x Dance on the Moon, by Fasliyev) scored a commanding victory in the Listed Soliloquy Stakes over 1400 metres at Ellerslie.

The Graeme Rogerson trained filly improved sharply on a last start fourth over 1200 metres, powering away to land her first Black Type success by more than two lengths.

A $155,000 purchase for Dormello Stud from the draft of Hallmark Stud at the 2007 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Awesome Planet has won two races and placed three times from nine starts.

Awesome Planet is the first foal of the Fasliyev mare Dance on the Moon, whose dam is a half-sister to Group One winners Dr Devious and Shinko King, also Group Three winners Archway and Royal Court.

Patinack Farm purchased the two-year-old half-sister to Awesome Planet at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year paying $100,000 for the Rock of Gibraltar filly from Dance on the Moon offered by Wentwood Grange.
