The best stallion by Storm Cat with 5 first-crop Gr.1 winners, including My Typhoon, Shamardal and Footstepsinthesand, and 17 Group/Graded winners in his first two crops.
Giant's Causeway's bloodlines make him suitable for the majority of American mares. He has hardly any NATIVE DANCER blood and this helps explain why he has already enjoyed spectacular success with descendants of MR. PROSPECTOR.
Aragorn, one of the best turf horses of 2006, and the Gr.3 winner Primary are both out of MR. PROSPECTOR mares, and Giant's Causeway's 2007 yearling out of Mr. Prospector's daughter Onaga sold for $1,500,000.
Giant's Causeway has three other Gr.1 winners out of grand-daughters of Mr. Prospector - his dual classic winner Shamardal is out of a daughter of MACHIAVELLIAN, his Coronation Stakes winner Maids Causeway is out of a KINGMAMBO mare, and his Diana Stakes winner My Typhoon is out of a MISWAKI mare. Giant's Causeway also has the Gr.2 winner Red Giant out of a KINGMAMBO mare. Another Gr.1 winner, First Samurai, has a second dam by FAPPIANO, who also sired the dam of Giant's Causeway's Gr.2 winner Diamond Omi.
Giant's Causeway has also sired the Gr.2 winner Naissance Royal from a mare by FORTY NINER. The Gr.1-placed performers Carriage Trail and Noble Causeway are out of SEEKING THE GOLD mares. More mares by SEEKING THE GOLD and FORTY NINER are justified Seeking The Gold's daughters have produced Good Reward, Pure Prize, Seeking The Dia and Seeking The Sky to Storm Cat, while Forty Niner is the broodmare sire of Storm Cat's high-class son High Yield and of high-class winners by Cat Thief and Tabasco Cat.
Giant's Causeway's first stakes winner, Aischa, is out of a mare by ZAFONIC, a son of GONE WEST, and GONE WEST is the broodmare sire of the Gr.3 winner Frost Giant. GONE WEST is also the broodmare sire of a 2007 yearling which sold for $1,550,000. Other sons of Mr. Prospector which have sired the dams of good winners by Giant's Causeway include LYCIUS, JADE HUNTER and CRAFTY PROSPECTOR.
Mr. Prospector's impact comes as no surprise, as he ranks with ALYDAR and AFFIRMED as one of three RAISE A NATIVE line stallions which have done very well with Storm Cat (see Van Nistelrooy for more details). BANNER SPORT, another son of Raise A Native, is the broodmare sire of the Gr.3 winner Drilling For Oil, while MAJESTIC LIGHT, a grandson of Raise a Native, sired the dam of the Gr.3 winner Bridge Game and the second dam of the Gr.3 winner Charm The Giant.
Storm Cat has numerous good winners inbred to NORTHERN DANCER. Giant's Causeway is therefore an option for daughters of DANZIG, DIXIELAND BAND, NIJINSKY, SADLER'S WELLS, DEPUTY MINISTER, etc. His Gr.1-winning son First Samurai is out of a DIXIELAND BAND mare, while another Gr.1 winner, Aragorn, has a NORTHERN DANCER mare as his second dam. It is worth noting that ROYAL ACADEMY mares create 4x4 inbreeding to Northern Dancer and 4x3 to Crimson Saint. One of Giant's Causeway's first Gr.1 winners, Maids Causeway, is out of a mare inbred 3x2 to NUREYEV. The second dam of the classic-winning Footstepsinthesand is by Nijinsky's son GREEN DANCER and Nijinsky's close relative THE MINSTREL sired the second dam of the Gr.2 winner Diamond Omi. The Queen¹s Plate winner Mike Fox is out of a mare by Lyphard's son ALZAO.
SEATTLE SLEW mares also have an impressive record with Storm Cat, with China Storm, Raging Fever, Statue of Liberty and Stormin Fever all winning Graded Stakes. Seattle Slew sired the second dams of the Gr.3 winner Frost Giant, the Gr.1-placed Jade Queen and the Gr.3-placed Neko Bay.
His classic-winning son Footstepsinthesand is inbred 4x3 to BLUSHING GROOM, through Rahy and RAINBOW QUEST.
Storm Cat has also proved highly successful with mares by DAMASCUS and his sons PRIVATE ACCOUNT and TIME FOR A CHANGE. Now Giant's Causeway has sired the Gr.3 winner Fairbanks from a TIME FOR A CHANGE mare. PRIVATE ACCOUNT mares figure as the second dams of the Gr.2 winner Naissance Royale and the Gr.1-placed Noble Causeway.
