Tale Of The Cat

Bay 1994 15.3½ hh
Storm Cat - Yarn

Distance won over: 7f. to 8.5f.

Champion 2-y-o sire in U.S.A. in 2003 & Champion Freshman sire in New Zealand in 2002/03. Sire of Lion Heart - the only colt of his generation to win G1 races at 2 & 3 years. Other top performers include G1 winners My Trusty Cat and Tale of Ekati, Gr.2 winners Be Gentle, Spellbinder, Whoopi Cat, Gr.3 winners Artemus Sunrise, Catboat, Feline Story, Catcominatcha etc.

Fee for 2009: $30,000

Tale of the Cat has a stakes winner out of a mare by TIME FOR A CHANGE, who is also the broodmare sire of a Gr.1 winner by Storm Cat's son Forest Wildcat and a Gr.2 winner by Storm Cat's son Hennessy. He also has Gr.1 winner, My Trusty Cat, out of a PRIVATE ACCOUNT mare, and a DAMASCUS mare is the second dam of the Gr.1-placed Resplendency. He would also suit mares by OGYGIAN.  Myth, a half-sister to Tale of the Cat by OGYGIAN, produced the top juvenile Johannesburg to a son of Storm Cat. His $600,000 yearling in 2007 has a DAMASCUS mare as her second dam.

Tale Of The Cat is distantly inbred to Northern Dancer (3x5), Bold Ruler (4x5), Native Dancer (5x4) and Princequillo (5x5). Several sons of Storm Cat have already sired Graded Stakes winners which are inbred in four generations to NORTHERN DANCER, including the Gr.1 winners Aragorn, First Samurai, Maids Causeway, Stormy Pick, Var, D¹Wildcat, Island Sand, Dawn of War and Stormello. Interestingly Tale of the Cat¹s daughter Resplendency has 3 lines of the brilliant NIJINSKY.
Mares by AFFIRMED, already the broodmare sire of a stakes winner by Tale of the Cat, and ALYDAR must also be candidates.
Tale of the Cat's Gr.3 winner Catboat, the stakes winners Remarqable Tale,Taletobetold and Catalissa and the Gr.3-placed Aristocat are inbred to MR. PROSPECTOR. Tale of the Cat had a $700,000 yearling in 2007 out of a FAPPIANO mare, the yearling being inbred 3x3 to Mr. Prospector. Tale Of The Cat's Gr.2 winner Spellbinder is out of a mare by Fappiano's son QUIET AMERICAN, so more mares from the FAPPIANO line are justified.

HALO is the broodmare sire of Storm Cat's Gr.1 winner Harlan and Gr.2-winning juvenile Van Nistelrooy, and there is good reason for thinking that Tale of the Cat is going to do well with the HAIL TO REASON line. He sired Tale of Ekati from a mare by Halo's top son SUNDAY SILENCE, and he also has stakes horses out of daughters of RED RANSOM, CURE THE BLUES, ARCH, PRIZED and SOUTHERN HALO. Interestingly his top son Lion Heart is out of a mare inbred 2x4 to HAIL TO REASON and another top 2-y-o Battle Paint is out of a mare from the same line through ARCH.

More BOLD RULER blood should also suit Tale of the Cat - he comes from the same family as Pulpit, who is by SEATTLE SLEW's son A.P. INDY. Tale of the Cat's 2007 yearlings included a $250,000 colt out of an A.P. Indy mare. His
Gr.2 winner Be Gentle is inbred 4x3 to Bold Ruler's son SECRETARIAT, while his Stakes winner Go Kitty Go has BOLD RULER's grandson PERSIAN BOLD as the sire of her second dam. Gr.3 winner Ashley's Kitty is out of a mare from the BOLD RULER line while her grandam is bred on a similar NORTHERN DANCER/SECRETARIAT cross to Storm Cat.

Mares from the PRINCEQUILLO line should suit this horse, as he has plenty of Nasrullah blood. Tale of the Cat's fourth dam, Monarchy, was a full-sister to Princequillo's top son ROUND TABLE. Mares with PRINCE JOHN, SILENT SCREEN, HOLD YOUR PEACE, MEADOWLAKE and APALACHEE blood are other possibilities from the Princequillo line.

Mares by Blushing Groom's sons, such as CRYSTAL GLITTERS, RAHY and MT. LIVERMORE, are also strong candidates following the successes of Consolidator, Giant's Causeway, Sophisticat, After Market and Aljabr, who are all by Storm Cat. Mt. Livermore is already the broodmare sire of a Stakes winner by Tale Of The Cat.

KEY TO THE MINT's son JAVA GOLD sired the dam of the Gr.1-placed Resplendency and Tale of the Cat's 2007 $600,000 yearling. PLEASANT COLONY is already the broodmare sire of three of Tale of the Cat's stakes performers, including the Gr.1-placed Galantas. Both Storm Bird and Storm Cat have done well with RIBOT line mares.
